I stood up, brushed myself off and cracked my neck. A sound resembling the destruction of a thousand mirrors. Saying I stood up is a bit of a misnomer. I hobbled onto my now bloodied stumps. Growing them back would take no time at all, but it would require concentration, and no area of my mind could be spared at this crucial time. Who was the man? Valish was what they called him, but he wasn't the son of a God. He was far too old, and he wasn't a God himself obviously. The sword was what had me puzzled. It didn't just cut into my legs, it seemed to eat them away from under me. Being in this human form limited my omnipotent powers considerably. I was even completely unable to detect the presence of others around me. At that very moment that that thought occurred to me, a smart sharp dart slid it's way into my neck. The last thing I remember was having razor wire wrapped ever so carefully around the stumps of my legs, and the reacquainted stumps of my arms. Very clever indeed. Making it so I can't regrow them.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I drug Samite into a bush where he wouldn't be found, then proceeded to silently work on the area where the fight had occured and Samite himself. None must know of what happened here. Samite must be taken somewhere where he can reap destruction and none will think twice about it. The mountains are the only reasonable solution. He must be allowed to kill without running into the Sons of the Two. If they find him again, they will alert Metangus. The last thing this brittle world needs is Fenrus on a killing rampage. Even as silent as he is, the chaos of his murders would not be swayed.

It felt like we had been walking forever. They all walked so quickly too, I was struggling to keep up. No one spoke, which was okay with me because it gave me time to reflect. In the span of a single day my life had changed so drastically that I barely recognized it as my own. I was surrounded by a bunch of strangers, even my brother, I barely knew. And my life now rest in their hands. Now there's the problem with reflection - it allows one to realize the depth of one's stuation, and at that moment I realized that I was in grave danger. Funny that it should not have occured to me sooner, but everything happened so fast.

We stopped for a rest at the base of an odd looking statue, though it seemed like I was the only one who needed to rest. Forky seemed anxious to move on, filled with a nervous kind of energy that I assumed was characteristic of warriors placed in dangerous situations. His friend, who I now knew was named Valish, was also energized, but in a different way. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but it seemed as though he became revitalized when he attacked Samite back in the clearing.

I was unsure if we were stopped for the night, or just a short rest. It didn't matter much anyway. It was clear that none of us would sleep. No one spoke, and oddly enough everyone kept their distance from one another. Too many questions that we didn't dare ask. In attempt to entertain myself and distract myself from my thoughts, I cast a Cantrip spell. A simple spell, the first one learned by all wizards in training. I created an orb of light that I balanced a few inches above my hand. I always challenged myself to see how big the orb could get and how long I could concentrate and keep the orb in existance. My mother always told me that it was good to practice harnessing magic energy. Perhaps I felt that I needed the practice now that I knew I was in danger. So I concentrated. The orb was about 3 inches in diameter now, I could usually get it to about 5 or 6 before it began to fade. I concentrated really hard. I guess that's why I was so startled when the voice boomed "STOP THAT NOW". Icarus loomed above me. "You've expended too much energy already, stop the spell". I lost concentration, effectively interrupting the spell, but to my dismay the orb above my hand continued to grow. Six inches, then 7, then 8.

"Stop the spell!" Icarus demanded again. Nine inches, then 10.

"I did", I replied softly still amazed as it grew to more than a foot in diameter, so bright now that it almost hurt my eyes to look at it.

Icarus turned and spoke to Horatius. "Even a simple cantrip spell.....I fear we are running out of time..."

I tapped my scythe on the ground a few times to draw everyone's attention. What I had to say must be heard.

"We are close to a very powerful magical being. Samite is a part of the source for all magical power in the world. When he is impassioned his magical output increases exponentially. Even a simple spell can be fueled to catastrophic proportions."

With this, I gestured at the Cantrip orb. I noticed suddenly that it continued to grow even past several feet wide. I motioned to Horatius. This was his area. He knew what to do of course. He muttered a few syllables under his breath and stuck his hand into the orb. It dissipated instantly, but time seemed to rewind, the sun going a step back up into the sky.

"Horatius here has given us an extra hour or so of daylight. Let us use it wisely. We can get another ten miles hiked before midnight. Even at the snail's pace we're going. At midnight, we'll have to take cover though. Strilus of the Black Mountain prowls at midnight. A dragon as lithe as he has never existed. If we tried to continue, we wouldn't survive the night."

With this, I started walking again, assuming correctly that fear would keep the others moving. This Valish, he seems to know what's going on better than I would have expected from a mortal. He had of course known a divine being before, but prophecy of this time should not have been shared with him. He would be an interesting ally to have in these troubled times. The question is, how much have the other two picked up from what has already happened...

Six thousand years was a very long time to sleep. But it was good. The entity felt well-rested, though a little bit irritated at having been rushed. It had been close too. If the portal had closed just a few seconds sooner.... Well no need to dwell on that now. It felt strong, refreshed, but instinct told it that strength would not last in its current form. The longer it waited to make the transition, the more its strength would wane.

It considered its options carefully. The one who had closed the portal - he was dangerous, as was the other immortal. These were creatures almost as old as the entity itself, and possibly even more knowledgeable. The third creature eminated with deitic energy, though he was clearly mortal. An odd combination, and too great a risk. The one who had opened the portal was very powerful indeed, but her strength was in magic energy. Magic energy was of little use to the entity, as magic required the knowledge and will of the sorcerer. The entity could take only form, not mind or soul. The final option was the clear choice. He was definately a mortal, and eminated power and influence and raw physical strength.

Pleased with its choice, the entity began the transition.

I glanced over and caught Forky's eye out of the corner of mine. It had a bit of a manic glint to it. As if he was about to do something that he would thoroughly enjoy in a way that no sane person should. I shook my head, wondering what the hell he was planning and kept walking. Whatever it was, he was not nearly as strong as the two we were traveling with. Icarus, in particular, seemed to be very competent in these woods.

It was lucky that he had stopped the orb from growing any larger, but they were far from out of danger yet. Someone could have seen the light, and from there could have determined that there was a weak link in our midst. We needed to keep travelling if we were to stay safe, but Forky was planning something, and travelling could be playing right into his hands.
